AIR SICKNESS


Airsickness is a form of travel or motion sickness in which brain receives confusing signals of motion from as well as being stationary, manifesting as spatial disorientation, nausea and vomiting.
Our ears are mainly responsible for balance and equilibrium of body, giving signals to brain about any problems with that, but while in air, eyes give signals of being stationary and ears of motion, and hence the symptoms. This is more so aggravated during taking off and landing.
Its common symptoms are
-         Vertigo or dizziness
-         Nausea
-         Vomiting
-         Cold sweat
-         Headache
-         Confusion

Simple steps to avoid air sickness
-         Never eat a large meal before getting on plane as it increases your chance of getting air sick but don’t be empty stomach as well; it will also increase your chance of nausea. Don’t eat too rich ir greasy food; eat light and healthy.
-         Don’t think over it too much, thinking continuously that you will get air sick will make you air sick.
-          When booking your ticket, ask for a seat that is over the wing, it is often the most stability offering seat where motion of flight is experienced the least Get adequate sleep the previous night
-         Wearing loose comfortable clothes is important while traveling
-         Avoid alcohol and smoking, as they help aggravate motion sickness.
-          Do not read when you are on the aircraft
-         Avoid coffee, you can have lemon tea or tea with ginger, it will help relieving the nausea.
-         Keeping yourself relax and stress free is very important, try deviating your eye and mind to distant objects or music. Sleeping is also a good option.
-         Don’t move around too much in aircraft, it tends to make you more unstable, try remaining seated; sudden movements in aircraft won’t affect you much if you are seated.
-         Keep chewing something like chewing gum or toffee, it helps in blocking out ear and you don’t feel that empty feeling in your ear.
-         Putting cotton in your ears or listening music with headphones on also helps in reducing airsickness.

Homoeopathic remedies
Coccculus indica – it is a very good medicine while travelling by air. Person experiences loathing and inclination to vomit.
Tabacum – for patients experiencing deathly nausea and vomiting, fainting and sinking feeling.
Ipecac –when person has constant nausea and clean tongue with no vomiting.
Borax –it is especially effective for people experiencing fear of downward motion.
Nux vomica – it is really effective for people who feel nausea with accumulation of water in mouth. There is pain in stomach with emptiness which becomes better by eating.
Petroleum- this is for people who experience nausea with a splitting headache and ineffectual vomiting with loathing for food.
Rhus tox- there is nausea and vomiting, with giddiness while attempting to rise. There is complete loss of appetite.
Fear of air travel
Some people have also extreme phobia for air travelling, manifested as acute panic, claustrophobia and fear of dying. They will feel better by taking either of medicines, depending on their symptoms, two hours before boarding on to their flights.
Aconite- if person has fear of flying which is precipitated by a frightening event or previous experience. The fear is intense and you will be surprised by the effect the medicine will produce. Remember kajol in plane scene in the movie pyar to hona hi tha, person reacts the same way screaming ‘the plane is going to crash; we all are going to die!’
Arsenic- when the fear is self centred and the person wants support to calm his anxiety and can’t sleep before the flight.
Argenticum nitricum- if the person is full of anxiety and apprehension before the flight and you will find him impulsive, dropping things from hand.
Calcarea carb-it is really effective for people who are afraid of heights but he feels responsible for safety of all passengers on board.

Tackling hair fall
Hair fall is what we all dread the most. Hair not only enhances the personality and beauty of an individual but is also a mirror to person’s health. But given levels of stress and lifestyle we are living, the trauma hair are subjected to in all the procedures we undergo in name of fashion, rebonding and straightening, ironing, colouring, repeated blow drys, are very hard for hair. They over the time make them lustreless, hair thin over time a falling is a common problem.
In this hectic lifestyle, it’s important to take care of hair before it’s too late. Following simple and easy things can go a long way in tackling hair fall.
·         Maintaining a clean scalp - It is the first and foremost step towards a healthy scalp and hence healthy hair. Shampoo them regularly with a mild shampoo and condition at least twice a week.
·         Comb them with wide tooth brush so as to untangle them easily.
·         Never leave hair dry, if you feel them dry, don’t waste time and use a leave in conditioner.
·         Drink 10 to 12 glasses of water everyday.
·         Having a good nutritious diet which is full of proteins, fruits, vegetables and dairy products is very important.
·         Taking good sleep is important; deprivation of sleep causes hair loss.
Diet
Knowing the nutrients which helps in preventing hair loss and foods in which they are present is very important.
·         Iron – its deprivation causes anaemia and is main nutrient responsible for healthy hair. Brittle dry hair implies iron deficiency. It is found in spinach, pomegranate and apple, green leafy vegetables, legumes, jaggery and nuts.
·         Zinc – it helps in preventing hair fall and premature greying. It is found stone ground and whole grain flour, mushrooms and spinach.
·         Vitamin B – it helps in preventing dandruff, hair fall, loss of colour and grey hair. It is found abundantly in bananas, potatoes, lentils, other whole grains and  green vegetables. 
      Vitamin C - ensures the health of capillaries supplying blood to hair follicles and is found in  fresh fruits and veggies, especially in lemon and amla.
      Vitamin E – it encourages hair growth, found mainly in wheat germ, eggs and vegetable oil.
·         Copper – stops hair from falling and is found in betel leaves, nuts and sesame seeds.



Home remedies
·         Mix egg yolk with curd and apply on hair, wash it well. It is one of the best conditioner for hair. This mask nourishes the hair, making them look shiny and full of bounce.
·         Massaging scalp with almond oil really helps. Steam your hair after massage; it helps in penetration of oil into hair.
·         For shiny hair and conditioning, in the last rinse while washing hair, add 4 to 5 drops of honey to the water.
·         Mix onion juice with honey and apply on the hair. Onion has vitamin b6 which promotes new growth of hair.
·         To prevent hair loss, make a smoothie of banana, honey, yoghurt, and skimmed milk and drink it on a regular basis for about 1 month. It restores a lot of nutrients which are needed for good hair growth.
·         Though these ingredients are not very readily available in kitchen, but applying a mixture of Aloe pulp with an ayurvedic powder called triphala onto the hair regularly results in growth of new hair within 3 to 6 months.
·         Applying a mixture of lemon juice and amla juice to the scalp not only helps controlling hair loss but also dandruff in the hair.
·         Boil the curry leaves in coconut oil till they turn into black ash. Applying this oil regularly helps in checking hair fall, promoting hair growth and preventing premature greying as well.

Acid fluor – hair breaks, splits easily, mats up and ragged, end of the hair dry with loss of natural lusture.
Kali carb –falling of hair with extreme dryness of hair.
Phosphorus –falling of hair due to excessive dandruff; hair falls in big bunches leaving big bald patches.
Selenium –falling of hair from head and other parts of the body leaving bald shiny patches.
Acid phos –falling of hair due to weakness
Mezereum –hair mats up together and falls; eczema of scalp.
Magnesium carb -falling of unhealthy hair; pulling sensation; itching of scalp.
